Can I Get Replacement Window Glass In My Replacement Window If Just the Glass is Damaged?…

What if you have a fairly new replacement window that has broken triple pane glass. You may wonder… “Can I just replace the glass in my window?” or “Do I need to replace the whole window”? In the following article we would like to give you a few thoughts…

Replacement Window Glass Options

The 1st question is, are your windows still under warranty? If so, do not replace the glass or you could unintentionally void the warranty. Call your installer. If the window is not under warranty you have several options for replacement window glass. Call a good window company and have them remove the broken pane and replace it with the same type of glass that was originally in your window. The process includes removing the glass, cleaning the frame, putting in new glass, next is caulking, and weather stripping to block drafts. Then your window will be as good as new at a fraction of the cost of a replacement window.

When to Replace the Window

If your existing windows are nearing the end of their lifespan, replacing them when the glass breaks may save you money in the long run. If you have low quality windows that are drafty and energy inefficient then now is the time to upgrade. If the seal on your window has failed it is best to replace the window. The telltale sign of a broken seal is a foggy window. Defogging services do exist but when the seal is broken the fogging will reoccur. If the dividers in the window are broken, you are best to replace. If the wood frame in a wooden window is beginning to rot, it is best to replace. If your windows are old and are suffering from broken glass, and having more than one problem on the list of common window issues, then you should consider replacing the window. But if you can get away with just a glass repair, then opt for this route instead.

Protecting Replacement Windows

A few suggestions to help keep your replacement windows looking new. It all starts with the right tools. Despite how simple it may seem, there are still a lot of homeowners who get it wrong. Sure, older windows may require stronger cleaners and more elbow grease. But replacement windows require very little maintenance. You should use a mild detergent and water to clean the frames. Wash them with a soft cloth and then rinse with clear water and wipe them dry, so water does not drip down the window. Then simply use a generic cleaner on the glass. Insect screens should come standard with most windows, but not all replacement window insect screens are the same. When looking into insect screens, be sure to consider easy removal, how large is the mesh, and are the screens sturdy and puncture resistant?
